Description:
As it's the last week of the school year and with some of the children leaving for school, we decided to make friendship bracelets for the children to give to their Forest School friends as a special keepsake.

Activity:
The children chose two or three pieces of wool and then began to twist or braid them together. We asked the children if they would like to use some elder to make their own beads, using the secateurs to cut to size. The children then decided whether they would like to whittle or decorate their beads using felt tip pens. We showed the children how to poke the inside of the elder out using a small hand drill in order to make a hole to thread onto the bracelet.
We asked the children to think about a Forest School friend they would like to give their bracelet to and to talk about why they are friends and what do they like doing together. We also talked about the long summer break and how some children will be going to school or other settings in September. We spoke about the special friendships they have made over the year. We asked the children to think about how they feel about starting school - we they feeling excited or perhaps a little anxious? We ended by encouraging the children to feel positive about the transition and the next exciting stage in their lives.
Home Activity:
No specific home activity this week other than to think and talk about the special people in our lives, be they friends or family and how wonderful it is to share in our experiences with them.
To all our fantastic Forest School children, parents and careers:
Have a wonderful, relaxing, exciting, interesting and above all,
fun(!) summer holiday and to those children who are going
to school or other settings we wish you all the very best!
