Activity:
Make a face out of clay and mud and make a collage on a tree to support the children to be imaginative and to experiment using different natural materials to create new effects. Make a 3D mud and clay face of people, animals, imaginary creatures or a character in a story etc. This activity helps to develop their understanding of facial features and expressions. Children work individually on their own piece to create a collective exhibition in the woodland.
Home Activity:
Discuss with your child about the different animals that might live in the woodland and what other imaginary creatures could live in the woodland. Talk about people, characters and facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth, ears and hair and about quantities, size and facial expressions. Discuss how our face is ‘solid’ and in three dimensions and the difference between a sculpture and a ‘flat’ 2D drawing.
